In order to make high resolution UT inspection in large areas and in short time, it is necessary to use a lot of people and instruments. All this can make the inspection cost too high for the final customer. This is the situation where ultrasonic multiplexers can make a difference. These devices are switches and under computer control, they let the user connect more than one UT transducer to a single UT flaw detector. Flaw detectors are very expensive devices and usually have one transducer input. Most flaw detectors have high PRF (Pulse Repetition Frequency) and can generate hundreds and sometimes thousands UT pulses every second. Ultrasonic multiplexers allow the operator share these pulses among many UT transducers. |

| Ultrasonic Inspection Most UT flaw detector manufacturers have UT multiplexers for their instruments. These multiplexers are usually expensive, have a small amount of channels, are big and are not general purpose, what means they work only when connected to specific flaw detectors or thickness gages. Triex UT multiplexers are intelligent devices made to work with any flaw detector or thickness gage, no matter the manufacturer. All that is necessary to control the mux is a serial port. One single command can make the mux scan all channels, giving the user the possibility to define how long each contact should stay closed. It is also possible to make the mux send back a message whenever each contact is closed. Triex ultrasonic multiplexers are the smallest and fastest in the market today. It is possible to scan 32 channels per second. They can be part of systems where portability is a concern. The multiplexers are low power and can run on batteries. Triex also develops software for data acquisition and UT analysis. Using Triex software and ultrasonic multiplexers, the customer can build very efficient UT inspection systems for huge metal parts like tankers, FPSO, oil rigs, boilers, pipelines, etc. |
